As district projects continue, Sutton could leave

YALE — The Yale Public Schools Board of Education is moving forward with plans for a major district-wide bond proposal this fall, even as its top administrator awaits news on a potential career move.

“After reviewing community surveys and reviewing project priorities, the board is being asked to approve preliminary ballot language for a Nov. 3 bond proposal,” Sutton said in his report to the board on July 7. 

Projects identified in the plan include:

• HVAC replacement at Yale High School
• New driveways and parking lots for Avoca and Farrell-Emmett elementaries
• Replacement of bleachers and gym floor replacement at Yale Junior High
• Bleacher replacement and gym floor resurfacing at the high school
• YHS cafetorium sound and lighting replacement for performances
• Repurposing a portion of the high school library to create a skilled trade space

“We have a number of summer projects that are moving along as planned,” Sutton said in the report. 

That includes the new Great Start Readiness Program classroom in the old Head Start building that has received Bureau of Fire Services and Bureau of Construction Codes approvals for the next phase of the project. There will be a fire alarm panel installed on July 22, and the project is presently on target to be completed on time, Sutton said.

Construction work also continues in the Yale Elementary office area and a new secure entry to the building and concrete work has been completed across the district as proposed, Sutton said.

Phase 11 of the flooring replacement in the elementary schools is nearing completion. Earlier this month, the company was working at Avoca Elementary and was hoping to complete the building before the end of the month.

Sutton was not present at the July 7 regular and organizational meetings due to his ongoing candidacy for the superintendent vacancy in the Romeo School District.

Sutton is currently one of two finalists for the position and spent Tuesday at a “Meet & Greet” Q&A session with Romeo staff and community members. The Romeo School Board is expected to make its final hiring decision this week.

Other business

At the organizational meeting, Pete Bullard was re-elected as president and Meghan Butler was chosen as vice president. Dr. Abby Brancaccio was elected secretary and Mark Hurlburt as treasurer. The terms of trustees Dena French and Dr. Michael McClelland will expire at the end of the year.
