Brothers charged with multi-day assault of female roommate
WALES TWP. — Two men are facing a slew of felony charges, including unlawful imprisonment and multiple weapons offenses, following an investigation into the repeated assault of a woman inside a St. Clair County home, authorities said.
Brothers Tariq White, 30, and Aimeir White, 39, were arrested by sheriff’s deputies and arraigned this week in 72nd District Court following a response to a local fast-food restaurant where the victim managed to contact law enforcement.
Police say the brothers and the victim all lived together. No additional information was released on Friday, July 10.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the restaurant on the evening of July 5 to interview a woman reporting an assault. Investigators learned the abuse took place over several days at a residence in Wales Township, a rural community roughly 45 miles northeast of Detroit.
Over a multi-day period, she was repeatedly beaten, threatened with a firearm, and prevented from leaving the residence, according to investigators.
Deputies tracked down both suspects and took them into custody without incident.
Court records show Aimeir White faces the brunt of the charges, reflecting a pattern of severe violence and drug possession. He has been charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, discharging a firearm in a building, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
Because of prior convictions, Aimeir White was also charged with five counts of felony firearm possession, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and a third-offense domestic violence felony. Additionally, prosecutors charged him with possession with intent to deliver more than 50 grams of cocaine.
A judge set bond for Aimeir White at $250,000.
Tariq White was arraigned July 8 on a single felony count of second-offense domestic violence. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety, with a 10 percent provision allowed.
That means the defendant can secure his release from jail by paying just 10 percent of the total bond amount directly to the court, rather than the full sum.
Officials have not disclosed the exact relationship between the two men or the current medical condition of the victim. Both defendants remain in custody pending their next court appearances.
