How rehearsals for ‘Mamma Mia!’ awakened my inner theater kid

After attending several more weeks of rehearsals, I have to admit that watching this cast has brought out my inner theater kid.

Every member of the company is dedicated and hardworking, but the commitment required of the lead performers is especially impressive. Memorizing lines, learning stage blocking, mastering choreography, and conveying genuine emotion all come together to create believable characters.

Jacinda Santora steps into the role of Donna Sheridan, Mike Bohne portrays Sam Carmichael, and Monique Horon shines as Tanya. Santora and Bohne bring their own interpretation to Donna and Sam’s relationship, making familiar scenes feel fresh and authentic. Horon channels Tanya’s larger-than-life personality with infectious energy that promises to make her performance a memorable one.

The youthful enthusiasm of the younger cast is unmistakable, but the seasoned performers deserve just as much recognition. Their experience, confidence, and spark add depth to the production, proving that life — and all its lessons — has only strengthened what they bring to the stage. I cannot wait to see even more as rehearsals continue.

The leadership team is equally committed to helping the cast succeed, continually refining vocals, acting and choreography as the production comes together one rehearsal at a time.

If these behind-the-scenes glimpses have sparked your curiosity, see the finished production Aug. 14-16 at McMorran Place Theatre, 701 McMorran Blvd., Port Huron.

I hope to see you there!
