Publisher’s Porch: Full of Bologna … and Proud of It

Welcome back to the porch.

Volunteers are putting the finishing touches on plans. Organizations are making last-minute preparations. Families are deciding which events they’ll attend, and before long, downtown Yale will once again be filled with familiar faces, great food, and the traditions that make Bologna Festival such a special part of the year.

That’s one of the reasons this week’s edition is a little different.

You’ll notice it’s bigger than usual. Each summer we publish an expanded Bologna Festival edition because there’s simply so much happening that deserves to be shared. From festival previews and community news to stories about the people and organizations that help make this celebration possible, it’s one of my favorite editions we produce each year.

You may also notice that some of your friends and neighbors received this paper even though they aren’t subscribers. That’s intentional. Each year we mail complimentary copies to selected homes throughout the area because we believe the best way to understand the value of a hometown newspaper is to spend a little time with one.

If this happens to be your first copy of the Yale Expositor, welcome. I hope you’ll discover what our subscribers already know — that local newspapers tell the stories you won’t find anywhere else. They cover the city council meetings, school events, local businesses, community organizations, youth sports, and the everyday moments that help define a community.

If you enjoy what you read, I’d encourage you to consider subscribing and get a paper mailed to your home every week. Your support helps ensure that Yale continues to have a strong, independent local newspaper committed to serving this community for generations to come.

We’re investing in the future of local journalism, too. Over the past year we’ve welcomed new reporters, launched a new website to bring you breaking news and updates faster than ever, and introduced new technology behind the scenes that helps us produce a better newspaper every week. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but we’re even more excited about what’s still to come and your subscriptions and our local advertisers help make it all possible.

Whether you’ve been reading The Expositor for years or this is your very first issue, thank you for spending a little time with us.

I’ll see you again next week, on the porch in these pages and in person at the Bologna Festival.
