Yale tennis rolls past Hope Christian
Yale’s boys tennis team picked up another win last week, as their season winds down.
With just the Blue Water Area Conference tournament and Regionals left on their schedule, the Bulldogs concluded dual match play with a 6-2 win over Hope Christian last week.
No. 2 singles player, senior Cole Hackett, earned a hard-fought win over his opponent, going three sets before pulling out a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 win.
Freshman standout Lucas Fox continued his dominance on the court with another win, this one coming in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Yale swept doubles play, winning two matches and taking another two on defaults.

Fox has been a bright spot for the Bulldogs this year. He has won 11 straight matches heading into the BWAC tournament.
Playing No. 4 singles all season, the freshman has won all 11 matches in straight sets with his closest competition being against Fenton when he won 6-4, 7-5. He is one of six freshmen on the squad who have been key contributors this season and form a nucleus of what Coach Steve Churchill calls, “an exciting future for Yale boys tennis.”
Churchill knew his team would be challenged this year, with what he called a “youthful” team.
“Our freshman group has done a great job this season and are learning the game,” the Yale coach said. With the exception of Fox, the other freshmen have been working together in doubles action along with sophomore Connor McClelland who has picked up 10 wins of his own this year. The other freshmen are Emerson Verhelle (10 wins), Brody Jacobson (six wins), Grayden Cowhy (six wins with Verhelle and 11 wins overall), Aiden Ridley (10 wins) and Jared Rein who has tallied eight wins this season.
The BWAC tournament was scheduled for last week on Thursday. However, rainy conditions caused organizers to postpone the event and rescheduled it for Monday, Oct. 5 at the Sanborn Park tennis courts and also with access to the Port Huron Tennis House, if needed.
