Yale teen involved in crash that injured Sandusky man

SANDUSKY — Sandusky police say a 21-year-old Sandusky man was seriously injured Monday morning, Aug. 31, in a crash involving a vehicle hitting a pedestrian south of the main intersection of the downtown area.

According to the Sandusky Police Department, shortly before 11:40 a.m. Monday, officers responded to South Elk Street, near Mills Street, for a reported personal injury accident. Preliminary investigation by law enforcement revealed a 17-year-old Yale teen was northbound on South Elk Street and was unable to avoid striking a 21-year-old Sandusky man as he crossed the street on his bicycle.

The Sandusky man suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident, police said, and was initially transported to McKenzie Hospital and later transferred to a Flint area hospital for further treatment of his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sandusky Police Department and the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation team. Names of the two subjects involved are being withheld pending further investigation. Police say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

The Sandusky Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, Sanilac EMS, Sandusky Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police.
