MDARD: Schools, daycares must report pesticide use
LANSING — Michigan agricultural officials are reminding educational and childcare facilities across the state of mandatory reporting compliance regarding on-site chemical applications.
According to a public advisory from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, all schools and daycares must provide annual notification to parents and guardians detailing how they will be informed of any pesticide use on facility grounds.
Under state regulations, schools are required to issue these notices within 30 days of the start of the academic year.
To satisfy state mandates, MDARD specifies that administrators must post the disclosure prominently at all main building entrances. Additionally, institutions must distribute the information directly through at least one supplementary method, including:
- Public area postings
- Direct email communications
- Telephone calls to parents or guardians
- Written notices sent home with students
- Official school website updates
