JV Bulldogs fall to Swartz Creek in opener

SWARTZ CREEK — The Yale junior varsity football team traveled to Swartz Creek last week and came home with a 13-6 defeat. 

JV Coach Brian Fowler felt his team had plenty of chances to come out on the winning side.

“Tough battle against a bigger school,” he said. “We had plenty of chances to take the lead, but we “shot ourselves in the foot” on multiple occasions with untimely penalties and missed assignments. We will work on our chemistry and work out the kinks. Everything that didn’t go our way was self-inflicted and correctable. The goal is to continue to teach the younger plays and build depth.”

Sophomore Kason Soucy led the Yale rushing attack with 17 carries for 64 yards. 

Freshman quarterback Ayden Rhodes rushed 8 times for 35 yards and completed 6 of 14 passes for 58 yards. 

Freshman Weston McCoy led the Bulldog receiving unit with two catches for 32 yards and had one interception on defense. Sophomore Quaid Ott had one reception for an 11-yard touchdown, Yale’s only score of the game. Kason Soucy led the Yale defense with seven tackles.

The Bulldogs return to action this week when they host North Branch in a 7pm game Wednesday at the Yale City park.
