Yale to honor 25th anniversary of 9/11
YALE — The Yale community will gather on Wednesday, Sept. 9, for a special remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, hosted alongside the weekly City of Yale’s farmers market.
Organized by market director Clintina Moore, the event aims to honor both the victims of 9/11 and the local first responders and military personnel who serve the community daily.
“I am a military girl, and I will never forget all those who served,” Moore said. “We have always said ‘Never Forget.’ It is truly an honor to put this event on so we can make sure those who put themselves in harm’s way are thanked, and that we take time to remember all those who were lost.”
Remembrance schedule, highlights
The evening integrates patriotic-themed market activities with community honors across multiple locations in town:
- City of Yale Farmers Market, West Mechanic Street: Features patriotic music, local vendors, and community shopping throughout the afternoon.
- Tribute ceremony, 6 p.m., Yale Veterans Memorial, N. Main St.: A short public service paying tribute to local veterans, police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel, concluding with the presentation of special appreciation plaques.
- Patriotic motorcade and display: Includes an organized motorcycle run and an appearance by the Cars 4 Vets program.
- Community gathering and car giveaway (post-ceremony), 2 Jones St. and A&W Lot: Attendees will gather at the library parking lot for Cars 4 Vets raffles, followed by the presentation of the organization’s 106th donated vehicle to a veteran in need behind the local A&W.
A growing community hub
Sponsored by the Yale Downtown Development Association, the farmers market has seen steady growth since Moore assumed leadership this spring, driving increased foot traffic to surrounding local businesses.
Organizers are encouraging residents from Yale and neighboring communities to wear red, white, and blue in a show of unity.
“For this special night, I hope we can set everything else aside and remember we are Americans, and that we are so much better together,” Moore said.
