Peck council approves transportation fund bond

PECK — The Village of Peck Council approved a resolution authorizing the issuance of Michigan Transportation Fund Bonds up to $300,000 during its regular meeting July 15, following a call from legal representatives with Dickinson Wright regarding the bond issuance.

Council members unanimously approved Resolution 08-2026 authorizing the transportation fund bonds after discussing the matter during a Teams meeting with the law firm. These bonds are typically used by a municipality to fund local road construction, maintenance, and winter operations.

The council also heard presentations from several community organizations and officials. Scott Lewis and Anthony Grifka of the Elk Township Fire Department outlined the department’s millage proposal, which will appear on the Aug. 4 ballot of this year. Jordan Katt of the Sanilac County Drug Task Force presented department statistics, while Sanilac County Commissioner Christine Lee provided her county report.

Police Chief Robert Major presented the department’s incident report along with speed statistics collected on West Lorraine Road between Peck and Bartlett Road. Council members also approved paying $1,750 in labor costs from the village’s general fund for work completed on the Peck police office.

In other police business, the council approved one-year contracts for part-time police officers.

Department of Public Works Supervisor Jeff Warren presented his monthly report. President David Tyler also reviewed zoning violations and presented the supervisor’s report. No permits were issued during the reporting period.

Council members announced a Village of Peck Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29.

The council also approved the June 17 meeting minutes, the July 15 cash disbursements and the meeting agenda. No public comments were received.

The next regular council meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19.
