Yale cross country competes at Mike Jackson Invitational
CROS-LEX — The girls cross country team placed seventh out of 10 teams at the Mike Jackson Invitational in Cros-Lex on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Scoring for Yale were Saige Cole (4th, 20:49), Lillian Bender (22nd, 23:34), Noelle Marsh (31st, 24:23), Ava Childers (35th, 24:39), and Padame Wadsworth (43rd, 25:26).
“We felt prepared for the hilly course from our summer training,” said head coach Erin Kovach. “Looking at the girls’ times, I was glad to see that most produced faster times than the opening meet last season. We need to keep moving up in the pack for a better scoring position.”
The Lady Bulldogs will race again Wednesday, Aug. 26, in Cass City.
Season outlook
After last year’s BWAC championship and qualifying for the MHSAA state finals, the girls look for more wins this season.
“We put in a good amount of miles over the summer,” Kovach said. “We have a seasoned team and need to keep them all healthy.”
Members of this year’s girls cross country team include:
- Seniors: Bender, Amy Campbell, Childers, Alexis Miller, and Wadsworth
- Juniors: Cole, Nahla Marsh, and Noelle Marsh
- Sophomores: Kayla Fowler, Elizabeth Monroy, and Katelyn Schweihofer
- Freshmen: Emily Olejnik. The team manager is junior, Sophia Bender.
The girls are coached by Kovach and Erin Carless.
