Brockway inches toward fining Jeddo Road neighbor, finds new fraud
BROCKWAY TWP. — The Brockway Township Board of Trustees could fine a Jeddo Road property owner last month for property line infractions, assuming nothing is done to address them.
During public comments of the township’s Sept. 8 board meeting, residents Deborah Comby and Dennis Duncan spoke about issues of pigs trespassing on their property and into their garage, a farmstand within 20 feet of the right of way, and a pig enclosure within 50 feet of a property line.
Township officials previously issued property owner Kaiden Mullis a warning letter on Sept. 4 for these infractions.
The fines should have been implemented starting last April, Township Treasurer Terry Wright said, when issues first arose, but the township did not proceed with its regulatory ordinance at that time to begin instituting fines.
New fraud incidents
Also during the Sept. 8 meeting, Wright said Tri-City Bank, the township’s bank in Brown City, caught two more fraudulent activities relating to the township fire department’s account.
Wright said the bank caught a fraudulent check and a payment made on a card not belonging to the township.
These two incidents follow another fraudulent check incident Wright informed the board of in August. The bank last month declined to comment when asked about that incident.
The township plans to close its fire department account and transfer funds into a new account.
The bank handles these types of issues internally, Wright said.
Odds and ends
The board approved procuring office locks for the township hall. The decision followed the discovery that an old key still worked on the office front door. For added security, new keys will include “Do Not Copy” markings.
The board formally incorporated MTA-approved Freedom of Information Act request forms and a fee structure that the township previously did not have.
The board approved general fund bills of $26,947.94, fire department bills of $9,063.30, and parks and recreation bills of $4,177.46.
